Exceptional Louis XVI style ceremonial desk
Rare centre desk table forming a dressing table, with inlaid decoration on the top of a still life with a basket of fruit and vases on a tobacco-brown background amaranth-coloured frames and bramble emphasised with netted patterns. Tray with inlaid decoration of fine latticework. A large middle draw opens revealing an adjustable shelf forming a desk on one side and a mirror on the reverse, flanked by two shutters, with inlaid decoration of latticework and polka dots.
The arched uprights in engraved and gilded bronze are topped with fruit baskets and support by an ingot mould with an openwork reserve. In the middle, a rinceau frieze is animated with yellow fauns standing against musical trophies. Slender feet.
French work in Louis XVI style from the end of the 19th century.
