Large pair of Louis XV-Style vases

Important pair of covered porcelain vases, created in the spirit of the prestigious productions of the 18th-century Sèvres Manufactory. Resting on circular pedestal feet, they display an elegant undulating form enhanced by rich raised decoration, including scroll-shaped handles, garlands, ribbons, and gilded highlights. Their remarkable “Vert Jardin” green ground — a colour particularly appreciated by Madame de Pompadour — enhances delicate hand-painted cartouches depicting two famous pastoral scenes by François Boucher: “Do They Think of the Grapes?” and “Shepherd and Shepherdess Resting”. The reverse is decorated with trophies combining musical instruments and rustic attributes, while the lids are surmounted by finely gilded pomegranate-shaped finials. Through the quality of their execution, the richness of their ornamentation, and the elegance of their proportions, this pair perfectly illustrates the refined taste of the Second Empire for grand 18th-century-inspired creations.

Parisian work from the second half of the 19th century. Green mark beneath the lid.
Napoleon III period, circa 1860–1880.
Hard-paste porcelain with “Vert Jardin” green ground.
