Pierre GOUTHIERE
1740-1806
Pierre Gouthiere was a genius for chiseled and gilded bronze works. His brightest period was from 1769 to 1785.
Around 1765, he produced and signed different bronzes based upon severe transition models, vases, clocks, candlesticks. In 1771, he participated to the creation of the Avignon clock, last piece that he signed.
In 1767, Gouthière received the brevet of the ‘only gilder of the Menus’.
He worked on the jewelry cabinet of the Dauphine Marie-Antoinette. The prodigious orders of Madame du Barry for Louveciennes made him famous. Twenty of his works were sold to Louis XVI for the Louvre and three for Marie-Antoinette for the Chateau of Versailles.
