Important pair of Louis XIV style vases
An important pair of baluster-shaped ornamental vases in antique green Greek marble. Richly ornamented with chased and gilded bronzes highlighting the marble’s preciousness and the depth of its green colour.
A frieze of palmettes and tulips, centred on a radiant sun motif, encircles the body. On the sides, two satyr profiles serve as handles. The quadrangular bronze base is punctuated with quatrefoils on an amatized background. These contrasting colours and materials, combined with a form inspired by Antiquity, make this pair of vases of remarkable craftsmanship in the great tradition of “mounted” objects of the 18th century.
French work from the first quarter of the 19th century, circa 1800-1830.
Louis XIV style.
