Exceptional and exquisite pair of large Etruscan ceremonial vases in polychrome porcelain on a blue background, lined with mosaic patterned lace, queen patterns and gilded filets, framing a large circular band in the centre, painted with scenes of deer hunting, several riders, courtesans, children and packs of dogs in a wooded landscape, crossed over by a river with a castle in the background.
Rich decoration of engraved and gilded bronze with matt gold and burnished gold. Flared neck decorated with a gilded circular frieze and interlaced with vine leaves and ribbing. Volute handle, placed on a round gilt bronze pattern and ending on the body of the vase.
Square base with plinth, adorned with a laurel garland and a fluted pedestal topped with a shell and an acanthus leaf pattern holding the vase.
Pink granite counter-plinth inserted in a gilded bronze base with achanthus leaf motifs.
Bourbon restoration period (1814-1830).
Dihl and Guérhard porcelain manufacture, also known as the ‘Duc d’Angoulême’s porcelain factory’.
Painting attributed to Jean-Louis Demarne, specialist in landscapes (1744-1829).
He worked for this porcelain factory as one of the artists who made it famous.
His work is well represented in museums in Cherbourg, Dijon, Dunkerque, Sèvres, Montpellier and Quimper, as well as in Russian museums in St Petersburg and Moscow. Several of his paintings are also on display at the Louvre and the Wallace Collection in London.
