Louis XV style decorative clock by Alfred Emmanuel BEURDELEY

BEURDELEY Alfred-Emmanuel

Decorative clock in engraved and gilded bronze, representing Harlequin and Columbine, among lush and exotic vegetation, topped with Pierrot playing the mandolin. White enamel dial with Arabic and Roman numerals signed A. BEURDELEY Fils in Paris.

The decorative clock is the one reproduced in L’Ameublement d’art français 1850-1900, Camille Mestdagh, Les éditions de l’Amateur, Paris, 2010, page 242 (fig. 284).

A similar decorative clock was sold at the A. Beurdeley sale, May 6th-9th, 1895, Etude Chevallier, Galerie Georges Petit, lot 30. This decorative clock is an exact replica of a model from the Louis XV period, one of which is hallmarked ‘C’ and crowned with a dial signed Jean-Baptiste Baillon. The main scene illustrating an episode of the Commedia dell’arte is inspired by a famous painting from Nicolas Lancret in 1734, stored in London at the Wallace Collection.

Surrounding decoration signed J. LEFEBVRE Fils in Paris.
French work in Louis XV style from the end of the 19th century.
